Relationship Issues Essay -- International Relations, Japan, South Kor

Different arguments and disagreements between countries can be found throughout our history on this Earth. A relationship that is lesser known is the relationship between Japan and South Korea. Japan and South Korea are two countries that are trapped by their past. Although the two countries are slightly similar when it comes to manners, but they are also very different in cultures and beliefs. Different cultures and beliefs are not the only reason that is keeping them apart though. Japan and South Korea have a long history. A history of colonial rule and lack of trust in Japan, South Korea chooses not to ally itself with Japan. Although the two countries have been working on stabilizing their relationship, they still need to overcome some issues. Japan and South Korea's unstable relationship could be improved by sharing their cultures more or through a military alliance. Japan and South Korea's relationship is known as a "quasialliance" (Cooney 9). The two countries are both allies with the United States, but Japan and South Korea still remain unallied to each other. Japan and South Korea still maintain in an unstable relationship. Although the two countries do not physically fight, they do not associate with each other much. South Korea holds little trust in Japan and its people because of their past relationship. The relationship between the two countries started with Japan's colonial rule over South Korea that lasted for thirty-five years and ended in the year 1945. Korean citizens protest and claim that Japan and its citizens do not acknowledge how cruel the colonial rule was . Even Japanese school books do not go into detail about the colonial rule. South Korea and its citizens claim that the text does not justify ... ...a could become a threat to Japan's East Asia leadership (Cooney 7). Japan leads East Asia in business. South Korea has great potential, in Asia, to become a leading role. The idea of South Korea becoming the leading role frightens Japan. Japan and South Korea have also had disputes over ownership. Disputes could carry on even if the two become allies. Japan and South Korea can become allies. The process may take some time but eventually the two countries will be able to see eye to eye. They may become allies through the culture the two already share with one another, or maybe they could become allies economically through the business relationship they have. North Korea and the United States might even play a role in the two countries becoming allies. Whatever the reason, Japan and South Korea can become allies. The possibilities for both countries are amazing.

Spanish Colonialism and Puerto Rican Identity :: Latin America American History

Spanish Colonialism and Puerto Rican Identity In order to understand the current situation of Puerto Ricans one must look at their history and retrace the sequence of events that led to the current formation of the Puerto Rican people. An important component of this history is the time Puerto Rico spent under Spanish rule. Studying this portion of Puerto Rican history forces us to acknowledge the contribution the Spaniards, European immigrants, and African slaves had on Puerto Rican identity as we consider it today. This also addresses contemporary debates on Puerto Rican identity. An example of this is evident in an essay written by Jose Luis Gonzales entitled "Puerto Rico : Th Four Storied Country". In the article Gonzales points out what he feels is a disregard toward the African contribution to the Puerto Rican identity. He argues that the first Puerto Ricans were black , based on his interpretation that Africans were the first group to come to Puerto Rico and reproduce who did not have ties to a "motherland" because they were slaves. This is unlike the Spaniard elites and Criolles that demonstrated their commitment and loyalty to Spain. Since they had no other place to go, Puerto Rico was their motherland. Gonzalez also points out that the culture of a region is always the culture of the elite, not the popular culture. Culture of the elite refers to the national culture while popular culture refers to that of non-elites. Therefore the African contribution is often ignored or forgotten about because they were of a lower class. Critics against Gonzales' argument claim that he exaggerates the contribution of Afro-Puerto Ricans, and the importance of race, class and ethnicity. Gonzales uses the metaphor of a four storied building to express the idea of Puerto Rican identity. At the foundation of this building are the natives of the island Boriquen which are the Taino Indians. Every floor that is added to this building represents a wave of foreigners that came to the island. The first floor is representative of the Spaniards that came to colonize the island, along with the slaves they brought with them, and the interaction these groups had the Taino Indians.

perfectly Imperfect: The Shakespeare Story :: essays research papers fc

"Perfectly Imperfect: The Shakespeare Story" Few authors today write with such universal understanding that their works will be popular with all types of people, and so successfully that their work survives centuries. These authors posses qualities we can seldom identify in their lifetimes. Yet we do know this -- William Shakespeare was one of them. William Shakespeare's parents were John Shakespeare and Mary Arden. John Shakespeare was born in 1529. His father was a small tenant farmer in Snitterfield, near Stratford-upon-Avon. He became a successful glover and trader, and owned civic office in Stratford. He was not born to the nobility, but he did have some authority in the town. In 1596 he was given by the College of Arms the right to a coat of arms and a crest. Doing that advanced his status to that of a country gentleman. He would belong to the upper class of rural society. That was the class just under the knights and the nobility to which the country gentleman could be promoted if he made money in trade or the law and had influence at court. His rise in authority began the year after he was married. He became constable of Stratford, in charge of keeping the town safe. From 1561 to 1565, he was Chamberlain, responsible for the oversight and maintenance of Corporation of Stratford property. In 1564, his name appeared on the list of Capital Burgesses. He was likely a member for a number of years, just without his name on the list. Capital Burgesses were the main English parliament representatives for towns or boroughs. Later on, he was bailiff of the town, and held many important positions throughout his life. William Shakespeare's mother, Mary Arden, was born to nobility, a wealthy family. She was the youngest daughter of Robert Arden, also a country gentleman, of Wilmcote. He left in his will to Mary the estate of Asbies in Wilmcote and six pounds, thirteen shillings, and sixpence. Within a year of her father's death, in 1557, Mary married John Shakespeare. William Shakespeare was the third child, born after Joan and Margaret Shakespeare. Margaret died before William was born, and Joan died sometime before 1569. William was born in 1564. His exact birth date is not known, though it is known that he was baptized on April 26 in the Holy Trinity Church of Stratford. His birthday could have been any of the four or five days before that day. Traditionally, it has been said that he was born on the 23 of April, the same day of his death and St.

Breaking a Social Norm

In our society we have a number of society norms that we abide by. For example, there is an unwritten rule of how one should behave in an elevator. For example, it is proper to face front, stand away from strangers, and not to look at others. When a social norm is broken people may respond with alarm, humor, fear, irritation, or an array of other emotions. When you think of a norm, you are probably thinking about being normal. But in psychology terms, norm means, a standard or representative value for a group. The norm that is more common to people is a social norm. Meaning expectations about what behavior, thoughts, or feelings are appropriate within a given group within a given context. In society today us as people decide what is normal and abnormal. I surveyed five people and asked them two questions of what they thought was normal and abnormal. The first question was â€Å"Do you think dressing weird out in the public eye is normal†? There response were â€Å"No, because everybody does that anyway. † My next question was, â€Å"Does being rude to an elder normal? There response was â€Å" No, you have to give respect to older people. † Well, I did this survey to get an idea on what people thought of what was normal and what wasn’t. This survey also helped me chose a norm to break. When I broke the norms I actually broke two and didn’t even know it until I was done with my acting. The two social norms that I broke were, wearing pajamas to the movie theatre with my boyfriend and being rude to authority such as elders. When my boyfriend picked me up for the movies, he just looked at me strangely.I know he wanted to ask why did I have on pajamas but he just kept quiet. By the way I did bring a extra pair of clothes with me, so I wouldn’t look like an idiot that whole night. Well anyway, on our way to the movies, my boyfriend just kept staring at me, but mind you he never said a word. When we went to get the tickets I r eceived many looks from people and heard many whispers around me. There was a couple standing behind us and they were saying, â€Å"How could he let his girlfriend come out the house looking like that†?I wanted to turn around and say something but I just kept my cool and said to myself, â€Å"This is only a test Cynthia don’t let them get to you. † Once I finished talking to myself I was relieved and ready to go into the movies. While walking into the movies, I received more looks and heard more whispers coming out of people which really didn’t make sense. All they had to do was just except me for who I was and that I was wearing clothes. After I got tired of the looks and whispers I changed my clothes and walked back in movie theatre.Once again my boyfriend looked at me strangely and said, â€Å" Why did you change†? When I finally broke it down to him that I was doing a project for psychology he started to laugh. His response towards me was, he w as going to love me no matter how I come out the house. I thought that was cute, that let me know that he doesn’t care what people think and that he was always going to be with me no matter how I look. When I broke the norm of how I look, I felt really insecure about myself and I really did care of what people were going to say about me.But I did learn this people are very judgmental on a person that they have no clue about. The other norm that I broke was going against authority. The authority that I went against was my mom during Thanksgiving dinner. When I did this norm, I really felt bad because, me and my mom are so close and I would never had disrespect her the way I did when breaking this norm. My mom had asked me to pass her the cranberry sauce. I responded and said, â€Å"Don’t you have arms to reach for it†. My mom gave me that look like I’m going to get you when we get home.Everybody at the table just stopped eating and looked at me like I was stupid. I just kept eating like nothing ever happened. Once everybody finished their dinner, I had to quickly make an announcement saying, this was just an experiment to see your reactions to my actions of today. Nobody believed me until I showed them the instructions on the computer. Once everybody read it, they said my teacher would get me into a lot of trouble doing projects like this. When I broke this norm, I destroyed the relationship between my mother and the rest of the family that was at the dinner table. Commodity School

market Theory Commodity School 01. 11. 2012 Sirket ad? n? yaz? n Bahcesehir University, MA merchandise What is good inform and what ar strengths and weaknesses of that supposition? trade hypothesis has been discussed over years. Many theorists had essay to explain merchandising thought since it was a separate field a explode from economicals. In order to indicate progress of the hypothesis Sheth, Gardner and Garret in the book of Marketing Theory Evolution and Evaluation compiled whole initiates of trade. They excessively argue how successful separately thought is while developing, implementing and distributing of those schools. On that paper, it result be tried to analyze what good school is and what its strengths and weaknesses be according to Sheth, Gardner and Garret. Schools of thoughts atomic number 18 formed by two holdings of a matrix. One panorama is interactive-noninteractive while the another(prenominal) is economic-n atomic number 53conomic. In firs t dimension, for the noninteractive schools selling is the inborn concept whereas coincidenceship is main credit for interactive schools. In second dimension, for economic miscellanea, the focvictimization is economic variables such as issue and distribution efficiency, equipment casualtys of inputs and outputs, and consumer income levels. At the other dimension, participants of marketing activities groundworknot be explained by sole economic influence. It can be clarified by social and psychological factors that may collide with the demeanor of marketing actors. With two dimensions of that matrix, goodness school is one concept of noninteractive and economic approach. The good school concentrated on the strong-arm characteristics of harvest-festivals and the related consumer buying habits for divergent categories of harvest-feasts. The most influential proponent of that school (Melvin Copeland) define commodities as stratagem goods, obtain goods and military strengt h goods ground on durability. Copeland utter that convenience goods were those customarily purchased at advantageously accessible stores, when he recognized the want, the bring became clearly defined in his mind.Copeland defined shop goods as the ones the consumer desires to comp atomic number 18 price, quality, behavior etc at the time of purchase. Final part of his classification is the ones that flummox some especial(a) attraction for the consumer, other than price, which induces him to put frontwards special travail to visit the store. For disparateness goods, brands ar essential. Copelands possibleness can be seen most inspiring opening for trade good school of thought. Theorists after Copelands had tried to develop the definition of categories. One of them was social lion Aspinwall who launched a classification system using five characteristics to variediate troika types of goods. Aspinwall named his three categories the red goods, the orange goods and the yel low goods found on replacement rate, gross margin, adjustment, time of consumption and lookuping time. Richard Holton take a firm stand that Copelands definition of the categories of convenience goods, shop goods and speciality goods needed to be revised. He emphasized that convenience goods and shopping goods can be defined accurately only from sales booth of the individual consumer.According to Holton, for the individual consumer, convenience goods be those goods for which the probable gain from qualification price and quality comparison among alternative sellers is thought to be small relative to the consumers idea of the searching costs in legal injury of time, money and effort. Shopping goods then, are for the individual consumer, those goods for which the probable gain from making prices and quality comparisons among alternative sellers is thought to be large relative to the consumers appraisal of the searching costs in terms of time, money and effort. However David Lu ck criticized Holtons theory in terms of dynamics of consumer behaviour. He claimed that Holton excluded the speciality type of good from marketing theory. The next theorist Bucklin tried to explain the distinction between shopping goods and non shopping goods as a first plosive of differentiation. He classified that shopping goods are the goods whose suitability is determined through search before the consumer commits himself to each purchase. He subdivided non shopping goods as convenience goods and speciality goods ground on their accessibility to substitutes.Until Kaish emphasis, commodity school could not highlight psychological font of consumers. Kaish was the prior emphasis on the consumers shopping effort. He assured that consumers had different pre purchase anxiety level for convenience goods, shopping goods and speciality goods. To him, as goods complexness increases pre purchase anxiety level excessively rises as well. After all those contributions, Ramond and Assae l asserted that firstly, product as a relation between physical ingredients and psychological results secondly, the product in terms of consumer actions and channel response must be defined. In addition, Enis and Roering asserted that a classification scheme that incorporates both the buyers and the sellers perspective holds the grea outpouring promise for illuminating the reciprocation litigate. Finally, Murphy and Enis developed four commodity categories as convenience, preference, shopping and speciality products based on effort and risk dimension Enis-Roerig Commodity Classification System buyer Expected Effort / Marketing motley Differentiation HIGH Buyer sensed Risk/ Product Differentiation LOWshoppingspecialityHIGHconveniencepreferenceLOWThe commodity school has revolted during the process that is summarized above. Many explanations and opinions are developed by the theorists. However, thither is unruffled unanimity for that school. Commodity categories are lull tried t o be defined clearly. It is understood a dilemma if definitions should be physical properties of the good or on the behaviour of the consumers. If latter one is preferable, should the focus be on the consumers mental effort or on his physical effort. In addition, the circumstantialation of hypotheses becomes contingent upon the diversity and individual differences among consumers.Beyond the potential variability among consumers, there is also the question of the possible change in any one consumers behaviour over time. Another point that cannot be clarified is how shopping effort is calculated and, limited and considerable levels of the shopping are distinguished in terms of operative efficiency. The points that cannot be clarified during evolution process for commodity school are listed. Although there are dilemmas about social organisation, specification and testability, the commodity school enjoys some easiness of theory implementation.Firstly, a researcher interested in com modity school could develop falsifiable simulations for the goods categories. Thanks to this simulation, he can interpolate marketing mix for a test product to determine whether market feat for the product could be enhanced. Secondly commodity school is valid for consumer goods, industrial goods, work and social goods. In addition, it is adaptable in global environment thanks to consumer classification based on diverse culture, psychological science etc. Also, the commodity school cooperates with modern technology. At last but not least, specific forms of distribution and promotion should accompany discordant types of goods. To sum up, commodity school is the one that many theorists have tried to structure and strengthen it. Physical characteristic and consumers psychological tendencies have been main factors that theorists have considered. Although it has dilemmas about structure, specification and testability, it can keep up to develop empirical supports, to enrich product c ategorization and to simplify in communication and implementing the theory. With the contribution of each theorist, it can be seen as one of the most half-hardy school of marketing.
